Williams College Professors Katarzyna Pieprzak and Neil Roberts team together to organize a film festival exploring questions of leadership, power and freedom in the French-speaking Caribbean. Three recent films, Toussaint L’Ouverture (2012), Aliker (2009) and Moloch Tropical (2010), depict the lives of historical and fictional figures of power whose influence would have long-lasting regional and global consequences. Drama and reality combine to tell stories of the pursuit of freedom and independence through journalism and revolutionary action.

All films in French and Creole with English subtitles.

February 18, Toussaint L’Ouverture by Philippe Niang (2012)

February 25, Aliker by Guy Deslauriers (2008)

March 4, Moloch Tropical by Raoul Peck (2009)

Films will be shown at no charge at Images Cinema, 50 Spring St., Williamstown, MA
