Dominica Observes International Francophonie Month

FRANCE-POLITICS- ROYAL-CESAIRE-MARTINIQUEAs our colleague Peter Jordens reminds us, Dominica—like Haiti and Saint Lucia—is a member of the Organisation Internationale de La Francophonie and March is Francophonie Month on the island. According to director of Alliance Française de la Dominique Carole Bogdanovscky, activities for the month are expected to be “cultural, spiritual and educational.”

Some of the events related to Francophonie Month in Dominica include performances of two plays—“The Notebook,” with renowned French actor Jacques Martial, and “A Temptest,” by French poet and activist Aimé Césaire, with a cast of French and Dominican actors. Cultural advisor Alwin Bully says that the “A Temptest” will expose young Dominicans to a poetic type of theatre and will acquaint them with the works of the deceased poet, whom Bully describes as “a true Caribbean person.”
