Pearl Awards celebrate Caribbean role models in the Netherlands

The Dutch Caribbean Pearl Awards were recently held for the second time in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The Awards, organized by the Caribbean community in the Netherlands, recognize and celebrate the societal successes of young professionals, high achievers and role models who have ties to Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten.

The winners of the 2013 Dutch Caribbean Pearl Awards are: 

Arts & Literature Pearl: Wijnand Stomp (Curaçao/Suriname).

Commentary by the Jury: “The resilience of Afro-Caribbean culture permeates his entire oeuvre.”

Wijnand Stomp is a storyteller, stand-up comedian, theatrical actor and author of children’s stories including Mister Anansi leert de wereld lachen [Mister Anancy teaches the world to laugh] (2010).
